Yahoo! Voices: The Tennessee GOP Is Proposing Legislation That Could Put Doctors Who Perform Abortions, and Their Patients, in Danger

-By Brian Conners

March 25, 2012- There has already been violence against Doctors who perform this operation. By putting the "Scarlet Letter" on the Doctor of, and the women, seeking abortions, the violence might escalate.

The article "Tennessee Bill May Expose Identities Of Women Seeking Abortions" describes how the Tennessee GOP is proposing dangerous legislation.

It states "Tennessee lawmakers will consider a controversial measure on Wednesday that could intimidate women seeking abortions by requiring that the names of doctors who perform the procedures be published online."

The Tennessee GOP can defend this by saying, as the article states, using this quote from the measure's sponsor, Rep. Matthew Hill, R-Jonesborough "The Department of Health already collects all of the data, but they don't publish it," he said. "All we're asking is that the data they already collect be made public."

Politicians of all stripes tell little white lies all of the time. Hill has done that as the article states "But the measure goes beyond existing reporting requirements and could undermine women's right to privacy by allowing opponents to identify - harass and intimidate - patients who undergo the procedure."
