April 15, 2013- Two bombs struck near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Monday, turning a celebration into a bloody scene of destruction.

SPLC: New Report: Radical antigovernment movement continues explosive growth; SPLC urges government to review resources devoted to domestic terrorism

March 5, 2013- The number of conspiracy-minded antigovernment “Patriot” groups on the American radical right reached an all-time high in 2012, the fourth consecutive year of powerful growth by a movement that is becoming increasingly militant as President Obama enters his second term and Congress debates gun control measures, according to a report issued today by the SPLC.

In a letter today to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, the SPLC warned of the potential for domestic terrorism and urged the creation of a new interagency task force to assess the adequacy of federal resources devoted to the threat.

Colorado TEApublican Threatens To Kill Democratic Lawmaker, Daughter

Blogged by Jason on Americans Against the Tea Party

February 26, 2013- Here we go again, with another “isolated” incident of violent Tea Party threats against a liberal public official who is trying to reduce gun violence in her state.  Colorado’s state legislature adopted four gun-control measures earlier this month, two of which were sponsored by Representative Fields. One requires universal background checks on all firearms purchases in the state, and the other limits ammunition magazines to 8 rounds for handguns and 15 rounds for larger firearms.

Truthout: Shooters Transformed by a New Era of Virtual Dehumanization?

-By Michael Meurer

February 22, 2013- After the mass murder of 20 children and 6 teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, by a disturbed 20-year-old on December 14, 2012, the dominant media narrative quickly turned into a national debate about gun control. As necessary and important as this debate is in a nation with over 270 million guns in private hands, we need to dig deeper for root causes. In the avalanche of reporting aimed at understanding the Newtown killer's motive, little attention has been paid to the idea that the killer may be a harbinger of the corrosive effects of new underlying changes in human nature, and that these changes may be shaped by the dehumanizing tendencies of advanced capitalism in an age of abstract financialization and social media.

Americans Against The Tea Party: Tea Party Gun-Nut Arrested, Posted Liberal Kill List

February 22, 2013- A 49-year-old man in Rockland County New York has been arrested after his landlord alerted police of threats she discovered while “stalking” his Facebook page.  Police investigating the man, Lawrence Mulqueen, found a stockpile of weapons in his rental apartment as well as a hit list of liberal politicians he posted to Facebook.

“Use blades when you can to conserve bullets,” Mulqueen instructed on Facebook.  “Always shoot them at 100 yards or more when you can, the further away they are the least you have to worry about.”
