RAW Story: Chamber of Commerce radio ad targets Obama’s ‘radical pro-union agenda’

-By Eric W. Dolan

September 12, 2011- The U.S. Chamber of Commerce launched a radio advertisement on Monday attacking what it called the Obama administration's "aggressive and radical pro-union agenda."

The ad will air on radio stations in Florida, Missouri, Montana, and Virginia. It takes aim at the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and the U.S. Department of Labor.

New regulations the NLRB issued in late August require companies to inform employees about their rights to unionize under federal law. That includes telling employees they have the right to act together to improve wages and working conditions, to form, join and assist a union, to bargain collectively with their employer, and to refrain from any of these activities.

The new rule will take effect on November 14.

"This economy is tough and jobs are scarce," a woman says in the Chamber's ad.

"I know," a man responds. "So why do the President’s appointed bureaucrats and union labor bosses keep making it harder for me to get a job?"

"It’s an outrage that these guys are still more interested helping unions instead of helping people," she says. "Rather than creating jobs and getting spending under control, they’re cleverly writing rules to give unions more power, making it harder for American businesses to create jobs."

"What? Favors to unions over jobs? Shocking," replies the man.

"I’m calling Congress today," the young woman says. "They need to stop government agencies like the National Labor Relations Board from ruining the economy."

The NLRB is an independent federal agency established in 1934 to investigate unfair labor practices.
