Advocacy Groups to Announce Public Hearing on Sarasota County Undervote
Coalition of voter advocacy organizations will urge voters to make their accounts public, build a record for statewide election reform
SARASOTA COUNTY, November 14, 2006—A coalition of voter advocacy organizations will hold a news conference here at 10 a.m. tomorrow to announce a public hearing on the massive undercount in the 13th District congressional race, and call on voters to come forward to offer public testimony on the election problems and offer ideas about how to improve the voting process.
The organizations are planning a hearing for Thursday night to provide potentially disenfranchised Sarasota County voters an opportunity to offer public testimony about their experiences at the polls. The hearing time and location are yet to be determined, but will be announced tomorrow morning. The organizations will renew their call for a voter-verifiable paper trail in all elections, and build a record that will help pursuing election reform at the county and state level in Florida.
The coalition holding tomorrow’s news conference and planning Thursday’s hearing includes The Florida Office of People For the American Way Foundation, the Florida Fair Elections Coalition and Common Cause Florida.
