A 101 on Post-Election Monitoring Tasks

Post-Election Monitoring: Call Your Local Election Official

Watch it! Inquire about your local post-election observation protocols and the schedule, so that you may observe the reconciliation of tallies (e.g., absentees provisionals, audits). You may locate your state's election local official with this helpful search directory created by the League of Women Voters.

Rights and protocols vary, but see our California's Post-Election Monitoring Tasks for what is typical in many states, and what to look for.

Who Can Observe (State by State)

Verified Voting has published a useful guide for citizens on election observation restrictions organized state by state:

"What Can I Observe?"

Because while some states permit anyone to observe while others are "party-centric" meaning that only designated political parties can assign observers; still others have hybrid systems, party-centric in some aspects but opening up observation to some parts to the public.
